Welcome!
The Pro Bono Referral Project is a state-wide organization that works to secure free and reduced cost legal representation for low-income citizens. Formed in the early 1980's, we are operated jointly by Legal Aid of West Virginia, Inc.; the West Virginia State Bar; and West Virginia Senior Legal Aid, Inc. There are numerous ways to volunteer, and most cases are referred through a local Legal Aid office or domestic violence advocacy group. Clients are screened for case type, eligibility, and conflicts, and matched with an appropriate attorney volunteer. Each year, at the annual meeting of the West Virginia State Bar, private attorneys are recognized with the Kaufman Award for the individual and law firm with the highest number of volunteer hours across the state. We hope you find our website useful and informative.
