The largest unit at Legal Aid of West Virginia is the Legal Assistance staff. These are our lawyers, paralegals, and support staff. This unit represents people with legal problems. There are twelve legal assistance offices in West Virginia.

What if your case is not on either of these lists? You should contact Access To Legal Aid Services (ATLAS) at 1-866-255-4370 to apply for services. We will review the situation and decide whether we can offer to help.
Our resources are limited. We have only about 40 staff lawyers to serve over 300,000 financially eligible people in 55 counties. (To compare, in 1981 there were about 75 legal aid lawyers in West Virginia.)
Many private lawyers in West Virginia volunteer to help Legal Aid clients. Those lawyers will handle a case for free if Legal Aid sends them the case. Those volunteers help us serve many more people than our staff lawyers can reach.
Legal Aid cannot accept requests for help through this web site or e-mail. Contact the Legal Aid office closest to you, to describe your situation and to ask if we can help.
