Legal Aid Scam Alert

We have been made aware of several incidents where individuals have been cheated by scammers claiming to be Legal Aid organizations.  Legal Aid of West Virginia DOES NOT charge for the legal services it provides to clients.  In some cases, clients may be asked to contribute to court filing or service fees, but these amounts are modest, and Legal Aid will never request payment by phone or money order.

If you have been victimized by this scam, you are encouraged to contact the West Virginia Attorney General- Consumer Protection Division.  You may also want to contact your local police.
